Dedicated Dementia Care
Our Home is dedicated to the needs of people living with dementia. We follow our Dementia care Champion Jackie Pool is a leading Occupational Therapist specialist in dementia with over 30 years’ experience in supporting people and families who are living with dementia.
We work with PAL (Pool Activity Level) Instrument which provide practical help to people with Dementia and other forms of cognitive difficulties to do personal, domestic and leisure activities.
Our residential care service is designed to provide a comfortable and relaxed home environment where home maintenance, laundry, cooking and housekeeping are taken care of on your behalf.
Our home is beautifully built and decorated and our garden imaginatively designed and well looked after – in some instances with the help of residents who want a continued involvement in gardening.
We bring interest and sociability through a full programme of activities and we prepare and serve top-quality, home-cooked food with ingredients sourced locally wherever possible.
No-one should ever feel isolated or alone in our home as each day there are many opportunities for interaction with other like-minded people over a meal, a game of scrabble or just a pre-lunch sherry.
For those who aren’t so keen on group activities, we have companion who provide one to one companionship by chatting, reading, playing cards etc. in the privacy of your own room should you so wish.
We recognise the importance of family and friends and ensure that their continued involvement is maintained. We encourage residents’ visitors to be part of the home; joining their loved ones at mealtimes, joining in our events such as jazz festivals, cream teas and garden parties.
All of our residents have a specific Key Worker assigned to them; this specific team member is there to support the resident and their family.
Primary responsibility is to review their resident’s needs on a regular basis and identify any physical or psychological changes.
The entire Thornfield Care Home team is involved in making sure their residents have a fulfilled day. Good communication is key and we encourage all our staff, to provide an atmosphere that is homely, full of chatter and laughter.
