Residents were cultivating in the garden

Gardening and time in nature can be good for physical and mental wellbeing. People often say gardening boosts their mood.

Tending to a garden gives a sense of purpose, providing an enjoyable distraction and opportunity to focus on something positive.

Gardening creates an opportunity for continual learning, stimulation and can inspire you to try new things.

Residents enjoy baking fun

Our residents and colleagues at Thornfield Care Home enjoyed an afternoon of baking this week as they took part in making cake together.

Baking activities can be very fulfilling in care homes. They not only fill the air with delightful aromas but also offer therapeutic benefits. Baking can help residents feel engaged, boost their mood, and improve hand-eye coordination.

Gardening activities for our residents

For our residents living with dementia, gardening can bring a sense of calm. It’s also an opportunity to get involved in meaningful interactions with others, whether it’s staff or other residents.

The physical benefits of gardening include practising dexterity skills and light exercise through weeding, potting, planting, sweeping and digging.
