Honouring Remembrance Day Together

At Thornfield Care Home, Remembrance Day is a time to pause, reflect, and give thanks to all those who have served – past and present.

From creating poppy displays and sharing personal wartime memories to watching national remembrance services together, each home was filled with quiet reflection, gratitude, and pride.

These moments of remembrance are not only a time to look back, but a chance to reflect on the values of courage, resilience, and unity that continue to inspire us all.

We will remember them.

Fruit picking at our care home

Residents literally enjoy the fruits of their labour!

Fruit picking time at Thornfield Care Home has arrived! Residents love this time of year – the trees surrounding the home have sprung into life and their fruits are ready for picking.

When the sun was shining a few days ago, we took a lovely walk outside and enjoyed the fresh air and warmth on our skin.

Cake making, baking and decorating at our care home

Our residents have been getting creative in the kitchen making some delicious cup cakes.

They all enjoyed a session of cake making, baking and decorating. This included pouring in the batter mixes, cracking some eggs, adding the water and vegetable oil and melting butted.

Mixed all these ingredients together, our colleague then split the mix into small portions for each person to fill some cupcake cases.

Easter activities for the elderly

Celebrations such as Easter are incredibly special and poignant to a number of our residents for religious reasons, or simply for the important memories associated with these special occasions which we celebrate numerous times throughout our lives.

We feel that due to the benefits to our residents it is important to encourage our homes to think independently and design activities suited to each homes resident group, to ensure our activities are inclusive for all and to give the most enriching experience possible. This is something we are incredibly passionate about as an organisation and are proud to see the amazing ways our staff and residents celebrated Easter 2025!

A walk in the garden

Walking in a care home garden offers numerous benefits for residents, including increased physical activity, enhanced mental well-being, and social interaction.

Gardens provide a connection to nature, reduce stress, and can even trigger memories, particularly for residents with dementia.

Mother’s Day activities for the elderly

Mother’s Day isn’t always about gifts and cards; it’s when we celebrate our mums and get to spend quality time with them.

As we grow older, it is easy to get lost in our day-to-day responsibilities and miss out on valuable time with our loved ones. That’s why days like Mother’s Day allow us to stop and celebrate our loved ones and in this case, our wonderful mums.
