Our residents enjoyed a session of music entertainment

Incorporating musical activities into our care homes has had a wide range of benefits.

For individuals living with dementia, musical care home activities take on an extra significance. Scientific studies have found that listening to music can provide great stimulation for the brain, not only producing a strong, positive emotional response but also reducing anxiety and stress.

What’s more, it’s been found that music can inspire reminiscence, communication, and improved cognitive skills for those with dementia.

Music facilitates non-verbal expression and can often bridge the communication gap where words might fail.

Granny’s Beauty Saloon

This is a wonderful sensory activity that can reduce anxiety, provide reassurance and a sense of comfort.

Our object is to make our residents feel special, reduce anxiety and keep hands and nails clean.

We gather a group of residents and seat them around a table for a chat while waiting for their turn.

We wash their hands in water, lightly massage with essential oil mixture or hand cream. Women may wish to have nails coloured, in which case involve them in the choice of colour.

    Residents enjoy baking fun

Our residents and colleagues at Thornfield Care Home enjoyed an afternoon of baking this week as they took part in making cake together.

Baking activities can be very fulfilling in care homes. They not only fill the air with delightful aromas but also offer therapeutic benefits. Baking can help residents feel engaged, boost their mood, and improve hand-eye coordination.
